💓 Shoe & Sandal Trends That Will Put a Pep in Your Step This Summer 2021

As we gear up for warmer weather ahead, it’s time to take a look at our shoe collection and decide if we’re in the market for a new pair of shoes. I know I like to grab a few pairs each year to stay fresh and current. Some pairs I snagged last year are even back in style this year like the sporty sandals trend that’s having a major moment. So, chances are these styles will keep cycling in and out for years to come. One thing is for sure, as we begin to reemerge into society after shelter-in-place, you’ll want to make sure your shoe game is on point. These shoe trends will help you put a pep in your step this summer 2021.

Sporty sandals come in various styles this season ranging from your classic Velcro styles to all glammed up with embellishments and bedazzles. Your most classic example of the sporty sandal is the most well-known thanks to Teva and Birkenstocks alike. Many designers have taken this original version and amped it up a notch. You can find them in flatforms, with rugged tread soles, and with whimsical floral print or pearlized straps. However, if you’re okay with the classics, that’s okay too. One thing is for certain, comfort reigns supreme with these stylish sandals. Never thought I’d say this but don’t be surprised when I tell you sandals with socks here is also a winning combination.

The woven braided designs are so beautiful and add dimension to the slide. The padded leather is so chic which gives these sandals a luxury feel. Opt for braided flats or slides with a heel for an elevated look. Woven slide sandals are the best footwear for everything from jeans to dresses this summer – they will be your go-to shoes this spring and summer. Choose your braided slides in anything from neutrals, to pastels, to bright colorful hues! Even a pop of color will look good on these little braided/woven numbers.

These barely-there sandals are the epitome of minimalist footwear design. They have simple and few straps which makes them uncomplicated and easy to slip on. Oh, and did I mention that despite being quite simple, they add a level of elegance to any look. I have even seen kitten-heel versions of barely-there sandals paired perfectly with biker shorts, a T-shirt, and a structured oversized blazer. Quite frankly, they can be worn with almost anything for maximum effect.

The cozy slippers that we wore throughout most if not all of 2020 are not taking a backseat quite yet. Luckily they’re here to stay in 2021 and lately fashion gurus and celebs alike have been spotted wearing them around town as streetwear. Who can say they mind it? It’s a cool kid look so if you’re brave enough to wear them outside, choose styles that function well as indoor/outdoor slippers. Meaning they have actual tread or grip at the bottom of the slipper. Opt for a wild fluffy flatform slipper or a sophisticated shearling slide. The funkier the better as this style is meant to be fun and not taken too seriously.

Channel your inner goddess in a pair of lace-up sandals. Elevated flats are in style as one of this season’s hottest trends. It’s also not too far from your favorite house shoe of 2020. As we take baby steps to get beyond our slippers, this trend is a fun one to try as it helps us ease out of slippers slowly. Opt for lace-up sandals in animal prints or with chichi additions like pearl and studs.

It’s been a while but ballet flats are back! Who’s doing a few pique turns, plies, and leaping for joy about this one?! I guess it’s kind of an obvious choice to bring back as it’s similar to the look and comfort of a slipper but chic enough to wear outside. Designers took that idea and ran with it creating ballet flats that are extravagant, showy, and by far make a statement. Look for ballet flats in bold metallics, laser cut-outs, fancy prints, and baubles. Ballet flats are such a classy addition to any outfit and this season’s trend will definitely pack some punch to this femininely classic shoe.

This season it’s all about clogs – a classic shoe that has been reinvented in every style imaginable. From your typical wooden heeled clogs with rounded leather toes to even the plastic slingbacks brought to you by Crocs. Does anyone remember Dr. Scholl’s slides being a major trend back in high school? Wear a little piece of nostalgia with similar wooden slide clogs this summer – with embellishments like studs or rhinestones for bonus points. Animal prints on all styles are trending from calf-hair leopard print to cow print. The best part is these classics are both stylish and comfortable which makes them another go-to this season.

Finally, a style that we all know and love reemerges this spring and summer in a lively and unconventional way – in color! This season it’s all about the celebration of style and what better way to do that than with doses of color here and there. Opt for a pair of your favorite heeled sandals in bright oranges, chartreuse, or cerulean. Even pastels are a popular hue. The goal is to have a little fun and create happiness wherever you go.

💛 Hats, Handbags, and Hair Accessories: The Best Accessories for Summer 2021

Accessories are crucial to any spring or summer wardrobe. This year it’s no different; however, as we slowly reemerge from staying safe at home, it feels like we will want to showcase our fashion now more than ever. From hats to handbags to fancy hair accessories – this season it’s all systems go! Accessories are a great way to start as they add a powerful punch to any outfit and are so great for layering or providing that glamorous extra touch. So, if you find yourself heading off on a beach vacation, the pool, or even for a casual stroll, make sure you are toting one of this season’s hottest accessories for 2021.

Straw visors are the go-to summer essential hat for the beach or poolside. They are chic and definitely functional in so many ways. One being (my favorite) you can wear your hair up in a bun and not have it be smothered by a hat. You can let your hair or ponytail wave freely. Straw visors also cover your face really well as they have wide brims to provide extra sun protection. Styles range from woven straw, honeycomb straw to artisan-made palm straw. Most are packable too which makes them great for popping in your suitcase.

See the world through rose-colored glasses literally this summer everywhere you go. Doesn’t that sound cheery?! Sunglasses on trending in all kinds of colored lenses like red, yellow, and orange. Shapes may vary but old-school aviator types are back in fashion now too. Think the old-school retro type a la Johnny Depp in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

These netted bags are hugely popular this season. They are also super practical as you can use them anywhere from the Farmer’s Market to the Pool Club. Net bags are well, see-through so make sure you’ve got some fun items that add a little splash. Like sunglasses, headscarves, hair claws, and your SPF. Some net bags come with inserts too in case you want something a little more structured and safe from small items falling out.

Keeping the sun off your face is so important. Bucket hats are a great way to keep your face shaded while looking super fashionable doing it. Yes, the ‘90s are back (what’s new) and these little numbers are gaining lots of popularity this spring and summer. Opt for a plain all-black or try one in a fun colorful print in an oversize style while you are outdoors playing in the sun.

Headscarves are ideal for summer days as they are cute and will keep your hair out of your face. You can tie your scarf into a ton of different styles too like a headband, ponytail accessory, or a head wrap. They will elevate any low-maintenance hairstyle and bring it to life. Grab a few of these silky or satin styles with elegant patterns and colors.

The ultimate summer statement piece is a fashionable beach towel while lounging at the pool or beach. You want to ensure your beach towel is fashion-forward because it will also double as a sarong or beach cover-up if you want it to be. So, make sure it’s made of a nice sturdy fabric and has a fun design or print. Plus, it just looks so chic and high-class and you will use it all summer long.

Beach bags in natural materials like straw seem to always make their way to popularity for the spring and summer months. Grab a woven tote bag one in a classic structured shape or one in a boxier style. These bags are great from airplane straight to the beach as they are great carry-alls for all of your valuable possessions.

Probably this season’s most important accessory: the face mask. Be prepared by always carrying a few face masks in your beach bag or purse. They come in so many adorable prints that it is always wise to bring a couple along with you when you are out and about. Be extra and attach a chain necklace to it for a little extra glam and also so you can conveniently take it on and off without losing it or having to put it away each time. It’s hands-free!

Speaking of hands-free, electronic accessory holders are slowly becoming all the rage. Whether that’s a fashion chain for your ear pods or a shoulder strap sheath for your iPhone. Go the extra mile by giving your electronics some love in stylish cases. This whole trend was created due to the low-maintenance/minimalist style of being at home. If you ever left the house, you only wanted to carry with you the essentials. It’s perfect in case you’re dashing out the door and don’t want to carry a full purse or bag. Genius.

Lastly, make a bold fashion statement with jewelry. Trends to follow are layering a variety of necklaces with different textures and made out of various materials. Gold jewelry is also very on-trend from chain necklaces to chunky gold hoops. Bejeweled cuffs mixed with colored gems pack a punch on your wrist too. However, you decide to add a piece or pieces of jewelry make sure it’s bold, beautiful, and colorful. This season’s accessories aren’t faint of heart – they came to be known and shown off!

💙 The Hottest Shorts That Will Keep You Cool All Summer Long

Well, are you ready to get some sun on those legs and hit the ground running? I mean it’s been a while and I know I can’t wait to start digging the shorts out of the bottom of my drawers! This sentiment may not be shared by all, but shorts season is one of my favorite seasons of all. I have a few all-time favorite pairs and they keep me feeling cool all summer long. So as the temps begin to warm up, let’s cover the hottest shorts of the season, that will keep you cool all summer long. The long and the “short” of it.

    Denim Cutoff Shorts

Jean cutoff shorts are a staple piece in the summer rotation. If you had to ask me the best denim shorts it would without a doubt go to Levi’s. I bought my first pair of Levi’s cutoffs from a vintage shop In Boise, Idaho back in high school (which I have still managed to hold onto). I have worn them to shreds but still, find it hard to part with them. They are durable and are my favorite pair of summer shorts. Levi’s are great for their high-waisted silhouettes, distressed details, and overall timeless nature. They look great with any and everything too from a classic white T-shirt to a dressier button-down blouse. Finding the right fit is important too as anything too short or tight and you may have a Daisy Duke situation going on. Make sure you get the right size so they are roomy enough to feel comfortable and breezy all summer long.

    Casual Sweat Shorts

The dolphin styles have that retro look to them and that elongates the leg I love right now. These athletic styles are so cute for running errands or athleisure styles. Or, they are great for working out. I love mine for working from home as they keep me cool and comfortable. They are also great as they keep me ready for a long walk at any time of day. So, whether you’re dressing your shorts up for your virtual meeting or pairing it with a favorite casual tee, casual sweat shorts are super cute. Especially, if you’re not quite ready to give up your sweatpants quite yet, but summer is calling and it’s time to switch to shorts. Casual sweat shorts are the right choice.

    Bermuda Shorts

Bermuda shorts are super cute in tight black denim or a baggy 90s khaki vibe. The Bermuda shorts, or trouser shorts, are taking the shorts to new longer lengths that are now a major street style look, not just a preppy look. Give a pleated pair a high fashion look by pairing it with a plain white tee matching blazer, mules, and gold jewelry. Or wear your raw hem black Bermuda shorts with a black ribbed tank for a monochromatic look with wrap sandals. Faux leather Bermuda shorts are another way to wear this fun trend without looking super basic. Add a blouse or classic top and heels and you have got a look!

    Drawstring Linen Shorts

I love linen pants like I love linen shorts in the summer. It’s another classic style that also looks so effortless and beachy in the summer. Oftentimes you can find linen-viscose blends or shorts made with Tencel which is another super soft/silky fabric that is lightweight and breathable. These are your go-to shorts for hitting the beach or for throwing on over your bathing suit as your beach cover-up after a full day in the sun or water. If you’re heading somewhere after just throw on a fun graphic tee to pair with your laid-back linen shorts. Also super cute in khaki or olive green with a simple white top, denim jacket, and white tennis shoes or flip flops.

    Paperbag Shorts

Paperbag waist shorts sit higher on the waist that gives it that cinched silhouette. Many of them have a bow-tie, belted or ruched waist. They are very cute and feminine as they create the hourglass figure and they typically are worn with a tighter fitting top. Bodysuits and high-neck tank tops are great options for flouncy paperbag shorts for a lightweight summer look with sandals. This is one of my personal favorite summer styles as it’s easy to throw on and keeps you cool all summer long. Also, great to layer a cardigan with if it tends to get cooler in the evenings. Or you can dress up a built-in belted pair with a chic blouse and espadrille sandals.

Some key factors to keep in mind when shopping for shorts:

    • Fit/Length: Choose styles and fits that accentuate your shape and body type. Also, opt for lengths, waists, and fits in accordance with your body type.
    • Fabric: Shorts come in a variety of lightweight materials for summer such as cotton, Tencel, linen, polyester, and denim. Choose a fabric that gives you the right amount of breathability that you feel your best in.
    • Occasion: Know the occasion for where you are going to wear each pair of shorts you are buying. Are these for exercising, everyday wear (working from home), the beach, formal attire? It’s important to choose a pair that fits the occasion that you’ll be wearing them to.

With so many fun styles and brands to choose from, which shorts styles are you excited to wear this summer?

🧡 Jumpsuits: The Most Versatile Piece for Spring that Will Help Lift Us Out of a Styling Rut

Ah, jumpsuits, the perfect transitional piece to take us from spring into summer. Not to mention this one-piece miracle worker does the heavy lifting by making us look put together with minimal effort required. This is important as many of us are still a little unsure if changing out of loungewear ever again is a good idea. Jumpsuits will bridge that middle ground between fashion and comfort and are a good starting point for breaking out of your sweats. Dresses are great too for this purpose, but for a more modern, edgy, of-the-moment design, the jumpsuit is your answer.

Jumpsuits also require the bare minimum when it comes to styling as the jumpsuit itself is the focal point. Add jewelry, heels, and a handbag if you are dressing up the look, or it can easily be dressed down with sneakers or sandals. Now, jumpsuits have been around for a bit (and no one is complaining) as they are a perfect balance of comfortable chic and they can go from season to season. Many of the styles included here are the more popular styles that have been circulating around the internet, on social media, to the runways in Paris. Behold, the many options in place that you have before you as we discuss all the different styles of jumpsuits.

    But first a little history:

Thanks to French-American designer, Pauline Trigere, who first popularized the jumpsuit in the 1960s. As it was once considered an item reserved solely for workers in the industrial arena, it quickly gained its popularity over the years as a highly recognizable fashion garment. Fast forward to now and jumpsuits are once again fashionable.

    Utility Jumpsuits

Utility jumpsuits were designed for and specifically worn back during WWII by pilots to serve a military purpose. Then, jumpsuits evolved to become a style only worn by male laborers in the workforce, then women joined the trend, once they entered the workforce. Today, women everywhere wear utility jumpsuits (and the like) as a symbol of style and strength perhaps – as it carries a part of history for women’s rights. Utility jumpsuits tend to run baggier or have an oversized fit them so keep that in mind as far as your fit preferences. Although, many come with cinched waists and buttons so you can adjust. Also, yes! It has pockets too! Lots of them. Style with casual white sneakers, double-strap sandals, or sandals with a low heel. This look is one that will take flight!

    Boiler Suit

Similar to the utility jumpsuit, the boiler suit is also synonymous with the working class and another replication of the jumpsuit itself. Today, you can find many iterations of the boiler suit but a common style is the denim boiler suit. With long sleeves, a structured color, and belted or unbelted waist you can adjust the fit. They can either be form-fitting or slouchy depending on the cut. This makes boiler suits a super practical option for any work-from-home wear as well. Dress it up with a pair of mules and gold accessories or down with some sporty sneakers.

    Cropped Jumpsuit

Cropped jumpsuits are ideal for spring as we move into summer. Find a lightweight breathable material like linen, Tencel, or modal which will keep you cool and comfortable. Also, these fabrics are made from eco-friendly and sustainable materials which are better for the environment. Sounds like a win/win! Sleeveless crop flare jumpsuits are great because they are just as cute worn with a T-shirt as they are alone or with a jacket. So grab your spring denim jacket and straw tote bag as you hit the streets in your retro sneaks

Rompers also belong in this category as they are perfect for the season ahead – summer! They are so cute in the short-sleeved button-front styles with cinched bow waists as well as the slouchier casual styles with a pocket-front and straps that tie in a bow. Either way, you can’t go wrong here. This is another great style to wear in structured stretch denim, cotton, or linen. Pair with your favorite neutral-colored braided slides or tennis shoes for a look that will have you ready for a vacation!

    Wide Leg Jumpsuit

Wide leg jumpsuits with a structured bust design or dynamic puffy sleeves are a major hit this season. You can also add to the wide-leg drama by opting for a jumpsuit in a bold, bright color like bubblegum pink or cherry red. This may also help brighten the mood of the world around you too. Slip on your strappy sandals or barely-there square-toe heels, metallic accessories, and a handbag for an Haute look!

    Strapless Jumpsuit

If you’re feeling a bit fancier, strapless jumpsuits are a great alternative to the more laid-back styles we have discussed prior. They are also the perfect choice for occasion wear – be it a wedding or any other type of formal occasion you have coming up this year. The fabric you choose is crucial too like crepe or structured polyester. Conversely, faux leather jumpsuits are going mainstream and work well on strapless styles too. This style is edgy, to say the least, and would be a showstopper for sure. Add heels and a clutch to elevate these looks.

    Retro Jumpsuit

This brings us to our retro style, designed by Pauline Trigere in the 1960s, that is influenced by the disco era of the sixties and seventies. These sleek one-pieces are trending in form-fitting silhouettes with flared, bell-bottom legs. What a fun way to wear a jumpsuit – with sequins and sparkles! These retro jumpsuits will definitely have you dancing the night away!

🖤 Biker Chic, Not Biker Chick: How to Wear Bike Shorts With Style

If you have been following the hottest quarantine trends of this year and last, then you will know that bike shorts have been one of them. They have proven undoubtedly convenient for any work-from-home lifestyle outside of sweatpants (when you want to switch up the rotation) and they are so easy to turn into effortlessly stylish outfits. Take the following seven simple ideas for example of how to style bike shorts.

    Long T-Shirt & Bike Shorts

This trend is easy to pull off but oh so comfortable and chic too. I recommend doing an all monochrome look in head-to-toe beige or a fun pop of color like seafoam green. Or, you can grab your Bermuda length bike shorts in black and pair it with your favorite oversize classic rock (Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, etc.) band/graphic tee. Keep this style fresh with a chunky pair of fashion sneakers or tennis shoes. If you are into the trend, add a pair of white tube socks. Switch things up with an unexpected chain crossbody mini bag and a jean jacket with extra volume.

    Oversize Sweatshirt & Bike Shorts

Does anyone recall the iconic Princess Diana bike short and sweatshirt looks? She had a few, but infamously wore her black bike shorts with a vintage Harvard University grey mock neck sweatshirt and made it a style that is branded in my mind forever. In fact, I replicated this exact style by thrifting a similar sweatshirt during quarantine (one of my new favorites I might add). At any rate, this style is simple to recreate by using one of your own college sweatshirts or even a plain crew neck sweatshirt for that matter. Add a pair of colored bike shorts if you dare. This look is meant to be sporty, so sport those sneaks (and socks) and you’re good to go.

Blouse & Faux Leather Bike Shorts

Faux leather bike shorts are one of those pieces you could take from day to night or casual to dressy in no time. They are super edgy, versatile, and just plain cool. Also, SPANX carries one particular faux leather bike short that has a contoured waistband made to hold you in. So, they are very flattering too. Add a tight-fitting bodysuit to wear underneath and that way you could do a layered look whether you wanted to add a fancy satin blouse if you are going out or a casual button-down if you are just hanging out. Depending on which occasion you find yourself in, faux leather bike shorts look great with sneakers or heels and your blouse of choice.

    Bike Shorts with Layers

Keep your look cool and casual by adding layers. Running out to meet a friend for a casual lunch date in the afternoon? Layer a cropped black tank top or ribbed sports bra under an oversized blouse or flannel top. Then, take a crewneck sweater or jacket and tie it around your waist for an extra layer-y vibe. Love mixing different textures, colors, and materials here too. Since this is more of a daytime casual outfit, pair with Teva sandals, Birkenstocks, UGG boots, or casual sneakers. Backpacks, fanny packs or even your hobo purse will do well with this everyday style.

Blazer, Crop Tee & Bike Shorts

Give your high-waisted bike shorts a match it deserves by coupling it with a trendy cropped top. Dare to bare a little skin or not, the crop top is a fun choice to wear for that 90s vibe and is great for summer too. Take this look from day to night or give it a little spin by adding a blazer. Take it monochrome but wearing a black blazer with black bike shorts or by wearing a plaid blazer. Keep a sporty vibe with socks and sneakers or opt for next-level sophistication by adding heels.

Whenever a chic blazer is involved keep the handbags classy. Tote your oversized baguette clutch or structured cross-body bag.

    Dress & Bike Shorts

Why not style your bike shorts with a flirty spring dress? Take your man out on a date or vice versa. Mini styles or slip dresses would be so cute here with a flared or ruffled skirt. Think florals, pastels, lace, button fronts, and chiffons. Anything that is sweet, feminine, and pretty. Imagine this almost as a refined Punky Brewster a la the ‘80s TV sitcom. Dress your adorable frock up with an edgy black or brown leather jacket – one that’s a baggier style. Complete this look with ankle booties, loafers or mules, and a small leather satchel. Add some dainty gold layered necklaces and a statement ring (i.e. turquoise, opal, or moonstone).

    Cardigan, Tank & Bike Shorts

Staying in? Grab your cardigan. Bike shorts are the best for lounging at home too. They come in ribbed styles now that come in the softest fabrics you will never want to take them off. These bike shorts are made for sleepwear too so pair them with a tank that’s a similar style and color. Then, layer with one of your favorite cozy, chunky, and long cardigans. This is an ideal loungewear look but could even pass for a quick run out to your local coffee shop too. Toss on a pair of casual slides as you head out or a comfy pair of tennis shoes. Add a messenger bag or large canvas tote bag in case you have to do some light shopping afterward.

    Happy styling!

    🤎 10 Eco-Friendly Fabrics for Sustainable Fashion

April is Earth Month! A special time that acknowledges global sustainability and focuses on how we can take action to make our world a better place to live.

In honor of Earth Month, Zulily has launched its first-ever Sustainability Shop to bring awareness to families of how they can have a big impact over time if we make small changes at home. So as Zulily is doing our part, we want to help other shoppers shop smart by giving you the power to shop ethically sustainable pieces. As the fashion industry is one of the leading causes of pollution on the planet, sustainable fashion begins with fabric that we purchase. Here are 10 sustainable fabrics that support eco-friendly fashion.

As one of the world’s largest denim manufacturers, Levi’s has apparel in more than 100 countries worldwide. They too have chosen to spearhead the movement towards change and progression by promoting eco-friendly and sustainable practices like recyclable denim made from cottonized hemp and organically sourced cotton. Basically, they use a special type of hemp that has been “cottonized” to feel like cotton. They also design clothing using recycled water bottles in order to keep waste out of landfills. Plus, they have made great strides to reduce water use in the process of denim production with the Levi’s Water<Less innovations since 2011. Levi’s has and continues to make a major impact one step at a time.

Recycled cotton is the process of converting cotton fabric into cotton fiber that can then be reused into a product. Many brands are recycling post-consumer scraps from going into the landfill by repurposing them. From T-shirts to blue jeans and beyond, look for materials that are made of recycled cotton as they are sustainable alternatives in textiles.

Organic cotton is processed without chemicals, pesticides, and with ecological practices like promoting soil health. Unlike the growth of normal cotton which is chemical-intensive and creates water waste, organic cotton has a much lower impact on the environment. It also has a much softer feel than regular cotton fabrics. Many companies are now using organic cotton in garments as they are known for being eco-friendly to the environment.

Linen is derived from the flax plant and is very similar to hemp in terms of sustainability. Its growth requires very little pesticide or irrigation. Linen is a great material for anything from pants to bedding. It’s also a fabric that will keep you cool as it lowers your body temperature in the summer, unlike cotton. The look of linen is also great because even if this fabric wrinkles, that’s how it is meant to look. It gives you that effortlessly chic look while also being eco-friendly.

Many major retailers are now producing ethically sustainable leggings and sustainable travel bags that come in a wide variety of styles, colors, and prints that are made from recycled plastic. Their recycled polyester is made from plastic water bottles in and around areas in China. Fishing nets, which would otherwise end up at the bottom of the ocean destroying an innumerable amount of sea wildlife, are turned into nylon. Both materials combined make an ideal combination for workout gear. The recycled polyester and Lycra blend that many sports bras contain, ensure lightweight comfort along with moisture-wicking technology to keep you dry during a high-impact workout. Recycled plastic is so versatile it can be used for light activewear to cozy sustainable fleece. Patagonia is probably the most well-known brand for pioneering the movement when they created the fleece jacket out of recycled plastic water bottles back in 1993. Since then others have followed in ethical outdoor wear and jackets can now be found in recycled down, polyester, and wool. Simply put, there’s a lot to love about eco-friendly jackets that will keep you warm and feeling good about it. Take your impact to the next level by wearing eco-friendly materials like recycled polyester to reduce your carbon footprint.

Enconyl is regenerated nylon that begins with removing waste from our landfills. Dresses and swimwear are another great eco-friendly way to stay cool this summer. Look for materials like recycled Enconyl (recycled nylon from plastic) mixed with blends of natural silk for dresses. Also, Enconyl is made from recycled fishing nets, ocean plastic, and its production doesn’t require much water.

TENCEL is also referred to as Lyocell that is also very well-known in the sustainable fashion world. It is produced from sustainably sourced natural wood and known for its softness. A button-down shirt dress for the summer is a super cute, lightweight, and cool option. You can now “dress clean” in fabrics such as TENCEL, a silky fiber made from wood pulp grown on specialized tree farms. The motto here: minimal footprint and maximum comfort.

Modal is another luxurious fabric that is so soft and silky. Similar to TENCEL, modal is made of pulp from trees, specifically beech trees. Given its super soft feel, modal is used mainly in pajamas, underwear, and sheets. Tops and tanks are also an ideal way to wear modal as it’s lightweight and breathable. You just might find this to be your new favorite material.

Bamboo is a natural fabric that is made from bamboo plants that are known for their high quality and sustainability. Bamboo textiles are also recognized for being ultra-soft and breathable hence why it’s a popular fabric in bed sheets and pajamas. Don’t sleep on adding bamboo fabrics into your wardrobe and bedding too.

Alpaca wool is considered to be one of the most eco-friendly wools as they are raised in their indigenous areas more humanely than most animals shorn for their coat. Other naturally derived fabrics from animals include merino wool, sheep wool, and cashmere. Hoodies, pullovers, sweaters, cardigans socks, and the like (including loungewear sets) are great everyday options for when the temperatures start to drop and are also made using sustainable and comfortable materials.

Upcycling your own clothes is a great way to transform items that appear worn or outdated, new again! Here are a few tips to try to upcycle your clothes:

    • Some fabrics like wool tend to form pill balls after regular wear. Shave off those pill balls from sweaters and sweatshirts by using a fabric shaver or depiller. This is one way to upcycle your clothes to make them feel like new again.
    • Turn an old pair of jeans into jean cut-offs that can be worn all summer. All you need is a pair of scissors to add an entirely new item to your collection.
    • I also want to point out that how you care for and wash your fabrics/laundry is just as important. The “Laundry Footprint” is a thing after all, a.k.a. the carbon footprint of laundry. So try to do your part by following these easy steps to reduce your carbon footprint when you do your laundry.

The one message that I hope to get across is the importance of shopping sustainably. Even if you are just starting out, pay attention to the materials that are on the labels of the clothes that you are purchasing and how they were sourced. Also, by bringing awareness to the brands that are doing their part for the greater good and their retailers for highlighting them.

Here’s to a better tomorrow. For a better future for our children. To better the environment and do good for our planet. After all, we only get one, and we can all do our part to do better for Mother Earth. One step at a time.

💙 The Perfect Jeans for Your Body Type

What’s the number one rule in fashion? Dressing per your body type and wearing what looks good on you in order to flatter it. Other than that, frankly, there are very few rules. After all, style is up to you, what you make of it and how you put all the fashion together. I’m just here to give you some fashion tips, tricks, and the latest trends along the way. I also have had the honor of training and teaching women how to find their best fit of jeans while working as a Stylist in my fashion career. So, in today’s lesson, we are going to learn how important it is to find the right fitting pair of jeans – a wardrobe staple. As our once most worn item in the weekly rotation, I think now is a good time to bring jeans back into the conversation as we begin to move out of stay-at-home orders. The fact is; however; that even though something is on trend does not necessarily mean it will flatter everyone. So, the more you know what suits you and your body type and the features to look for is key to this lesson. Here are the ways to find the perfect jeans for your body type.

    Types of Denim

    • Straight Leg – same width throughout thigh, knee & leg
    • Bootcut – slightly flared leg opening made to accommodate a boot
    • Flare – tighter at the knee with a flared leg opening
    • Skinny – slimmest at the ankle & throughout the leg
    • Boyfriend – slightly looser fit all over with the cuffed hem
    • Trouser – Mom-jean style with a baggier fit

    • Low Rise – sits below belly button – about 2-3”
    • Mid Rise – sits barely below the belly button
    • High Rise – sits above the belly button

    • Dark Wash
    • Light to Medium Wash
    • Colored Denim

    Body Types

If you have an equal size shoulder to hip ratio with a smaller waist or similar, accentuate those curves, honey! Bootcut and flare jeans that are fitted through the thighs and flare at the bottom are your go-to styles as they showcase your best features. Curvy figured gals also do well with stretch and a well-defined waist like high-waisted jeans to accentuate their smaller waistlines. This will also ensure that the dreaded gaping doesn’t form at the back of the jeans which is a common dilemma for this body type.

    • Seek Out – Flares or wider leg flares, skinny jeans, straight leg jeans, dark wash denim
    • Avoid – Baggy jeans, too much stretch in your denim
    • The Look – For an all-around fabulous look try high-waisted slim flare jeans, a black V-neck top, and heels for a simple yet chic look.

Women with an athletic body shape may not have the most curves, but they are able to wear practically any jean style they choose as they are able to create them! Athletic body types can also wear low-rise jeans really well and mid-rise jeans too. Since the key takeaway is to create a more womanly silhouette, look for more feminine styles and jeans that will help you achieve this look. Usually, this means elongating and lengthening the leg with long, slim styles on athletic frames.

    • Seek Out – Low-rise or mid-rise jeans, feminine styles, long & lean styles that will create curves & length on your adorable figure.
    • Avoid – High-waisted, straight-legs, baggy styles that will only make you look frumpy & shapeless when you’re obviously not!
    • The Look –  A voluminous blouse with feminine details, low-rise flare jeans, and platform heels is the winning recipe here!

Pear-shaped ladies have slender shoulders and wider hips. One of the main areas of concern they run into with fit is gaping in the back of their jeans with their narrow waist to hip ratio. Contoured waistbands and high-waisted jeans are an excellent choice for pear-shaped body types. Boyfriend and mom-jeans styles alike will fit high on your smaller waistlines without gaping and will allow comfort through the hips and thighs.

    • Seek Out – High-rise jeans, straight leg jeans, tapered jeans, and dark wash denim will skim your pear shape perfectly.
    • Avoid – Low-rise, light-blue wash denim will only look drab on your gorgeous figure.
    • The Look – Balance out your proportions with a structured blazer, high-waisted straight-leg black jeans, a crew-neck T-shirt, and heels.

If your upper and lower bodies are in proportion and you have a shorter waist, then you have an apple body type. The goal here is to elongate the figure to create the image of curves and to define a waistline. Therefore, we focus the attention on elongating the legs creating the artistry of curves. Jeans with a high elastic waistband are a great idea, especially, if they are a skinny style and highlight your thin legs. Bootcut, ankle or tapered jeans are also super flattering to accentuate slim hips and thighs.

    • Seek Out – Bootcut, ankle, tapered or skinny jeans which will flatter your slender hips & thighs.
    • Avoid – High-waisted jeans and low-rise jeans will draw away from your beautiful assets.
    • The Look – Pair dark skinny jeans with a longer tunic top and layer with a longer blazer and flats for a figure-flattering look!

With so many styles of jeans on the market and what is “trending,” it can be so difficult to choose just the right pair. However, with these simple ways to narrow down the right styles for your body type, the goal is: I hope you go out there and find the perfect pair that is right for YOU!

💗Joggers: The Most Versatile Pants for Running Errands, Breaking a Sweat or Lounging

Let’s talk about the jogger for a moment, shall we? This pant has had quite the rotation in my quarantine wardrobe and I feel it needs to be celebrated. It is one of those pants that is the best, most versatile bottom as it has the comfort of a sweatpant but the style of a regular pant. A jogger is a pant you could get away with wearing to run an errand even if it was technically a pajama bottom. They are also like an update to the leggings craze and are flattering to all body types. So if you are a little tired of your usual old leggings and want something new read on. And since I really can’t think of a reason not to love joggers, I wanted to discuss the variety of types to choose from when selecting your joggers.

    Velour Joggers

The epitome of ultimate cozy and comfort is found in the velour jogger. I bought my first pair of velour joggers around Christmas last year and it was the best decision I have ever made in my life. I seriously had to force myself not to wear them every day and that was the biggest daily struggle every morning while getting ready. I believe you have to seek out quality if you want to experience the highest level of comfort, but they are definitely out there. Velour joggers are peak cozy collection pants and I think they can still be cute worn out on the street too. Grab a matching hoodie to go with our pair with a neutral-colored sweatshirt.

Woman wearing faux leather jogger pants

The jogger turns edgy once you combine it with faux leather. This is a great pant if you want to go from day to night and look office-appropriate but also cool and not like you are trying too hard. They are stylish and pair nicely with blouses, T-shirts, sweaters, sneakers, boots, and heels. Just depends on the occasion and the vibe you are going for. Size up if you prefer a baggier style or down if you like your faux leather joggers tighter.

Woman wearing a tie-dye matching jogger set

This 70’s inspired craze is still having a major moment and the jogger pant is no exception to this rule. Dare I even call it timeless? Because right now, tie-dye seems like a print that is here to stay. It’s so colorful, bright and there are so many unique color options to choose from. I love a tie-dye matching jogger set in a long or short sleeve or tie-dye joggers are cute on their own too. These lightweight joggers are great for spring and summer as these colorful options make them splashy for the upcoming seasons.

Woman wearing cargo jogger pants in green with zippers

Cargo joggers are awesome because they have pockets! There are two types of cargo joggers: a more professional work-type cargo jogger and a sweatpant-style cargo jogger. Both are great and highly functional for the purpose you need them for. Style your olive green cargo work joggers with a navy checkered button-down, platform heels, and neutral-colored tote bag. Your laid-back cargo sweatpants will be cute with a cropped white tee, sneakers, and black backpack.

    Woman working out wearing joggers

Some joggers are specifically designed for working out. They have thick, high waistbands and the fabric is moisture-wicking which is great for low or high-intensity workouts. The fabric is also super comfortable too which makes it versatile for staying at home to lounge in. The pockets are another huge plus in workout joggers as they have large pockets for phone storage. If you can get a matching hoodie and athletic sneakers to go with your workout joggers you can complete this sporty look.

Woman wearing a sleep joggers a pajama set in pink leopard print

Since sleep joggers are mainly meant for sleeping and lounging, why not get joggers or a set made out of the coziest material you can find? Something lightweight or cooler for the spring and summer like modal and perhaps a little warmer like flannel for the winter. French terry is another good fabric for jammies as it is known for its higher quality. I would also recommend a slimmer fit so they are not loose against your body while you sleep. Again, sleep sets are great here because they are easy to reach for at night to slip into before bed.

Woman wearing green joggers a matching jogger sweatpants & sweatshirt set

Jogger sets are great as you get a matching top and bottom which is basically a wardrobe essential at this point. I feel it is the best combo to throw on for a Saturday morning coffee run or to walk the dog before work in the morning. You can even layer with a puffy vest or jacket when it’s cold. It looks put together and feels just as comfortable. Plus there are so many colors and patterns to choose from – the options are endless! Neutrals are great and colorful tie-dyes are fun too. I recommend stocking up on a few sets as they always come in handy in the weekly or weekend rotation.

The moral of the story here is that you don’t have to be an avid jogger or runner in order to wear jogger pants. In fact, they are quite possibly more comfortable as lounge or streetwear pants depending on your style. The best part is that they look great on practically everyone and they are easy to get your hands on! With so many styles to choose from, which joggers are you going to try?

💜 Top Spring & Summer Dresses That Are Trending 2021

This spring and summer, with all of our enthusiasm pent up, now is your chance to play dress up and break out of the dullness of wearing our weekly sweatpant uniform. A new dress can make you feel beautiful and is one of those pieces that can do wonders for our confidence level. It is very evident that this season’s styles are geared towards lightweight, effortless designs which are meant for relaxing at home or taking on a beach vacation. Much like our lifestyles will be from now until the end of 2021. However, we are also seeing some bold, bright trends rolled into the mix. Perhaps for those that want to shake things up a bit and have a little fun this spring and summer. Volume is popular again with trends like puffy sleeves reminiscent of the eccentric 80’s style mini dresses – fun for a special occasion. There are many to choose from in prints, patterns, and styles this spring and summer. Read on below to discover the top spring and summer dress trends of 2021.

    Nap Dress

Really, it was a trend last year, but it seems to be making a bigger comeback this year. Likely, working from home will continue throughout the summer. This peasant-style dress was inspired by Hill House Home and likely gained momentum when Bridgerton debuted earlier this year. There are many different styles you can choose from, such as dusty pink ruched busts and capped sleeves, long floral tiered maxis, or whimsical prairie dresses in solid white. They are so cute to style for spring, summer, or even as we long ahead to fall as well! From boho chic with sandals, a leather cross-body, and a jean jacket. Or, you can go grunge with boots, a graphic tee, and a leather jacket into fall.

    Bold Colors

Bright and bold colors bring that spring refresh we have been looking for! It will also bring life and vibrancy back into our closets. So be on the lookout for colors especially in bubblegum pink and yellows this spring and summer. Also prints in – bold florals and colorful new takes on tie-dyes. Just as these colors are splashy, so are their styles. From maxi and midi lengths to puffy and asymmetrical sleeves – these styles are dying to be taken out on the town or to a dine-in-only restaurant. Perhaps this summer you can dance the night away this summer in one of these hot summer dresses!

    White Dresses

In the name of this season’s spirit of effortless chic, white dresses have naturally found their way to top trending dresses of spring and summer 2021. I mean, what is more effortless, fresh, and classic than a spring white dress? From poplin midis, tiered maxis or peasant dresses with puffy sleeves – these sweet numbers will keep you feeling your best all spring and summer long. They are so boho and cool, that you can throw on a pair of sandals or sneakers and look easily put together. White dresses are great for vacations too as they double as beach cover-ups or tunics. Throw them on with flip-flops for when you head to lunch on the beach.

    Slip Dress

slip dress is one of those versatile pieces in your closet that you can pretty much wear all year round. For spring, you can choose a midi floral print slip dress and pair it with quilted slides and an oversized cardigan. For a dressier look try a silk or satin slip dress in a pastel or lighter color. Then, pair with an edgy moto jacket and boots or heels. That’s one thing that makes slip dresses so great, you can wear them with anything and they won’t fight with much. They layer perfectly under or over everything like a basic T-shirt or long sleeve even for fall too. That’s why it is wise to have slip dresses in a couple of different colors and prints in your wardrobe.

    Mini Dress

The 80’s mini dress is having a moment for spring and summer. I see it as, once social distancing orders have lifted (hopefully this summer) everyone is going to celebrate! So let’s bust out our 80’s mini dresses ladies – just in time for summer! If you are ready to show a little leg, summer is probably the time to do it. Puffy sleeves, maybe a little glitter too? I see this trend as being something I could get in on. The more color the better too! So look out for bright, bold, and statement colors because I think it’s time for a celebration!

    Maxi Dress

This season, the long maxi dresses are very much in style – be it straight or oversized as it is very much a symbol of femininity. Maxi dresses are so versatile and look great on nearly every body type which makes them universally flattering. I love that they have a boho vibe and that they also transcend all seasons. You can take one maxi dress and change it up until spring, summer or fall by adding a new coat or shoe to give it a completely different look. For spring, try an oversized spaghetti strap floral maxi dress with gladiator sandals, a Levi’s crop jean jacket, and a straw tote bag.

Spring is definitely upon us and I hope these dress trends get you excited to start dressing up again! With all these new styles out there it makes it so fun to start trying new trends – which ones will you try this spring and summer?
