Birthdays around here are not taken lightly and this year was no exception. We had family in town from Seattle and packed four whole days chock full of entertaining events in and around SF. The month of October is the birth month to many in our family
in which Jon and mine happen to land within two days of each other. [Kramer – October 4th, Jon – October 22nd, Bailey – October 24th, Jane- October 28th, Erin – October 29th] This is such a fun coincidence – so every year we try and plan something BIG in order to celebrate our birthday week. It’s Scorpio Season, baby!
We started with a tour of Alcatraz island bring and early Monday morning on Jon’s birthday the 22nd. Followed by lunch in Fisherman’s Wharf consisting of clam chowder in SF sourdough bread bowls, fish and chips and fresh crab cocktails. We stumbled upon the cutest miniature golf course called Subpar in which Jon schooled us all by beating us in a friendly game of mini golf. Each hole at the course was a historic sight in SF – so we felt like we toured the entire city. No Birthday is complete without some Irish Coffees at Buena Vista and topped off with an ice cream sundae at Ghirardelli Square.
Jon’s sister, husband and two daughters stayed with us and we had a great time! The next night we celebrated our joint birthdays over pizza with my sister and mom. We shared stories, laughs and probably over smothered the little girls, Anna (Dot) and Jane with kisses and loves.
I got pampered on my birthday, the 24th, with gel manicure and sea salt pedicure with an extra long massage. I love the fall colors that they had at the salon – I got a pinky nude on my hands and dark red Merlot on my toes. We had a girls night over filet mignon steaks at Black Angus and laughed until we cried. Gifts include: Apple iWatch from my mom, sister and brother, lululemon camo leggings, personalized coffee mug and spa day from Jon, and handmade earrings from Erin. Def got spoiled today.
The party train continues this weekend with another fancy dinner on Friday and the Husky football game at Cal on Saturday! We have friends in town from Seattle and the entertainment continues! Here’s to a great year ahead – doing BIG things!
Best month of the year here we are! Oh, October, how I love thee. Not only is it my birthday month – it’s just the best month out of the year! The fall vibes are in full effect, the surrounding colors of nature are changing into rich colors of red, gold and plum. The days get a little shorter and “vibier” that matches my mood- there’s just this overall sense of mystery in the air. Cozy, indoor activities are almost a requirement yet it’s still not too cold to go outside. Or in my case, here in California some days it’s 85 degrees, dying for some rain here! The nights get cooler; however, and we can fill our homes up with warm fall scents by candlelight and indulge in the tastes of fall with Harvest Teas and pumpkin spice everything. I eat Pumpkin Spice Cheerios for breakfast! I mean who doesn’t love the month of October, amirite?! Here are the highlights of the month that lies ahead:
We are in the midst of football season where the competition is starting to get real and starting to matter as far as playoffs are concerned. My beloved San Francisco Forty Niners are not doing well this season and our primary quarterback, Jimmy G, is out for the remainder of the year with a major knee injury. This means I am an honorary Dallas Cowboys fan in support of Jon – which is also beneficial to my Fantasy Football League as I picked up Zeke and Cole Beasley. Sundays are usually full of excitement around here! I am still Forty Niner Faithful and follow every game with just as much spirit and pride.
Fall Fashions are in full effect – chunky sweaters, leather boots, animal prints, classic plaids, denim and the ability to layer! Ah – it’s by far the best season for style! I have been busy building my fall wardrobe arsenal with a mix of all things fashion and function. Stay tuned for more on BStyle.
October 3rd is Jon and my anniversary – this is year four for us! He surprised me with an Insta Pot I have been wanting for years! So far putting it to good use on #footballsundays in our home. Cooking has become a newfound love of mine and now I am able to experiment with various recipes found on the internet. Loving all the soups this season – and willing to try them all!
The October birthstone also happens to be a favorite of mine: the Opal! It’s so mysterious and reflects a variety of colors and in Greek, the word is derived from Opallious meaning “to see a change of color.” Love that as it is a symbol of regeneration and signifies change is coming. We are now in the thick of Libra and rapidly approaching Scorpio Season.
October 22nd – Jon’s birthday celebration will begin with a spooky visit to tour Alacatraz and his family will be joining us from Seattle!
October 24th – Drake and I were born on this day. Enough said (lol). I was born at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek in 1984 – that’s right I will be 34 years old this year and have never felt better! This year, I am setting out on a journey to inspire while continuing to blog and explore more creative outlets over the year. My wish is to fulfill a passion in writing, styling and connecting with others on a mission to affect positive change.
The UW Huskies will play the Cal Bears on October 27th here in Berkeley – GO DAWGS!
It’s Halloween! Get your costumes ready! I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with this year! Every year people just get a little more creative – my favorite part is handing out candy to the trick-or-treaters!
So – that’s a wrap up of some of the big things going on over here this month! Fall – a season for change. What things do you have planned for fun and for change this month? More on fall inspo coming up on T.B.D.
