đź–¤ Bailey’s Q&A Style Tips: How To Wear Overalls

Q: I just bought a new pair of overalls, but I’m not sure how to style them yet. Can you give me some styling tips on different ways I can wear them?
A: I love wearing overalls! They are so cute, comfortable and you can wear them all year round. Plus, I think anyone can pull them off! Here is a list of ways to style your overalls.
CLASSIC WHITE TEE

While the plain white tee shirt is an obvious choice, it’s also the chicest choice to pair with your overalls. Especially on the days where you don’t know what to wear, this one is always a go-to. It’s versatile, easy, classic and cool. Plus, it always looks put together.
STRIPES

Those preppy three-quarter sleeve striped tops are such a cute way to sport your overalls. This look is up there on the list of top ways to wear overalls because it’s such a timeless classic. You can wear your stripes in any way imaginable: a short or long sleeve, a sweater or T-shirt, V-neck or boat neck, thin or thick stripes and in any color-way you desire.
BLOUSE

Overalls generally have a casual feel, so pairing with a blouse would be an unexpected choice. There are several choices here: a peasant blouse, structured, off-the-shoulder or casual button down. The mix of professional/polished meets casual, works perfectly to create a casual, chic vibe. So you can dress this outfit up with heels and jewelry or down with white sneakers and a backpack.
MOCK NECK, TURTLENECK & SWEATERS

A mock neck is the perfect way to add a structured twist to your denim uniform. I also love a full on fitted, long sleeve black turtleneck and overalls combo. It’s quite simply one of my favorite looks. I am also adding sweaters into this category as bulky knits pair nicely under overalls for a boho chic vibe.
HEELS

Elevate (literally) your bibs by swapping in a pair of heels. They will surely dress up a pair of linen crops, but they will add that “feminine with an edge” vibe when you wear them with cuffed denim overalls and a chic black top. Make sure to roll or cuff them to show off those ankles and heels!
CROP TOP

This look may not be for everyone, but a crop top with overalls is a trending look. As most of the midsection is covered, it’s not that overexposed of a look as you would think. It is kind of like a peek-a-boo (or side cut out) of a small portion of your side. It’s a cute look and it’s especially a great way to wear overalls in the summer. You could also rock a crop top in the fall/winter if you wear a cardigan or jacket over it. This is also a really cute for a pregnant belly too.
SHORT OVERALLS WITH LAYERS

As short overalls are a 90’s sensation, you might as well layer with some rock and roll grunge here too. Tie a flannel shirt around your waist, wear your overalls with one strap hanging with an oversized band tee underneath. Another typically good style for cooler months is to wear your “shortalls” with opaque black tights underneath.
EXPERIMENT WITH FABRICS

Denim isn’t the only material meant for overalls. There are plenty other fabrics like corduroy, linen, velvet which will add texture and a level of interest to any outfit. These overall fabrics have the ability to dress your outfit up or down as well depending on the occasion.
